Oct 04, 2024With a range of materials and styles available, it’s natural to wonder which glass is most commonly used in sliding doors.
As a custom sliding door company, we’ve completed numerous installations and can confidently say that, regardless of what’s most popular, it’s always important to choose what works best for you and your specific needs.
To help you make your selection, we’ve compiled a list of the three most popular types of glass that customers typically seek when purchasing sliding doors:
One increasingly popular type of glass is fluted glass. Also known as ribbed or textured glass, it brings back a vintage aesthetic but looks stunning when paired with modern elements like black aluminum framing.
Fluted glass is unique in appearance and allows natural light to pass through while still offering a sense of privacy. Though transparent, it gives the panels a diffused look, creating a distinctive atmosphere.
This glass is ideal for separating spaces like bedrooms, bathrooms, or even offices where a level of privacy is desired without fully closing off the area.
The second most popular choice is frosted glass. It provides more intimacy for room dividers while still letting light in. Many people use frosted glass to create new bedrooms, especially when trying to partition spaces without windows.
Frosted glass offers an elegant look that is both durable and easy to maintain. To clean frosted glass, simply use a damp cloth or a glass cleaner, and dry it with a newspaper or paper towel.
The most popular type of glass for sliding doors is clear glass. Versatile and stylish, it’s commonly used for room dividers to achieve a clean, modern aesthetic. Clear glass pairs exceptionally well with black aluminum, giving spaces a “lofty” feel.
Although clear glass is not ideal for privacy, it’s great for creating separation within a space without making the area feel smaller. It allows natural light to pass through easily and is generally a top choice for sliding doors.
